Dictionary: Kanun


Kanun (sometimes spelled Qanun) is a musical instrument played throughout the Middle East in classical music.  It is from the zither family, and is played laying on the lap and plucked with both hands.  Most have 72 nylon strings.  When played for a dancer in a taxim the dancer most commonly do shimmy layering.
